About answara

I built answara because I watched a good business lose work to a voicemail.

Last year I hired a garage door repairman. Great reviews, fair prices, exactly the person I wanted for the job. But every time I called, it went to voicemail, and I almost hired someone else instead. Twice. When he finally called me back, he told me something I have not been able to forget.

I lose jobs every week because I can't answer the phone while I'm on a job site.
The garage door repairman I almost stopped calling
An auto repair technician in coveralls holding a diagnostic tablet beside a car.
A tradesperson in a hi-vis vest and hard hat holding a pipe wrench on a job site.
A shop owner in an apron holding a hand-lettered open sign in her doorway.

He is not the only one. Since we started answering business lines for owners like him, this is what our receptionist has picked up on their behalf.

150,000+calls answered
100,000+appointments booked
$35M+in booked work, est.

Why I built this

A garage door repairman told me he loses jobs every week because he cannot answer the phone while he is on a job site. He was good at his work. That was the whole point. Good enough that I kept calling back, busy enough that he could never pick up, and the phone was the exact place his best work leaked out, one missed call at a time.

So I built answara to answer that phone. It picks up on the first ring, sounds like a real receptionist, answers what your callers actually ask, books the job into your calendar, and texts you the details before you have climbed out of the crawlspace. It does not do your job. It stops you losing work while your hands are full.

He was good at his job. That was the whole point. He was good enough that I kept calling back, and busy enough that he could not pick up. The phone was where his best work leaked out, one missed call at a time, while he was under a door with his hands full doing the thing his customers actually hired him for.

I kept thinking about that call. If a repairman I already wanted to pay was losing me to a voicemail, how many other good businesses were losing work the same way, quietly, every single day, and never even knew the call had come in?

I did not come out of telecom. I got a close look at how much good work never happens because the person who could do it was too busy doing it to answer. answara is my answer to that, built for the plumber, the groomer, the shop owner, the person whose hands are full.

Our story

How we got here

Here is the short version of how a missed call in Miami turned into a receptionist that answers your line.

  1. 2023

    Founded in Miami

We started in Miami — one goal: make sure a busy business never loses a job to a voicemail.

  2. 2023

    answara.ai launches

Our first customers put the receptionist on their real business line and let it answer for them.

  3. 2024

    Answering in more languages

We began setting up agents that answer in a caller's own language, configured by our team on request.

  4. 2026

    A team behind it

What began as one founder is now a small core team, and you can meet them below.

What you can hold us to

answara will answer your calls in a voice you are not embarrassed by. It will tell your callers the truth about what it is and what it is not. It will not pretend to book a job it could not book, and it will not quietly drop a caller it could not help. When it is the wrong tool for the job, we would rather say so here than sell you a month of it.

We review the calls that go sideways, and when one sounds wrong we fix it and tell you what changed. Our founder's name is on the company, so you always know where a complaint lands.

We build for your callers, not for demos

Every choice starts with the person on the phone. If a feature only looks good in a demo and does not help a caller get an answer, we do not ship it.

It keeps getting better

We tune the voice, the wording and the handoffs continuously, and the improvements reach your line without you rebuilding anything or paying for an upgrade.

Your data stays yours

We are SOC 2 Type II audited and HIPAA-ready. What your callers say belongs to your business, and closing your account removes it, on the terms our privacy policy sets out.

It has to pay for itself

If the phone gets answered but nothing changes for your business, we have not done our job. We would rather you cancel than keep paying for something you do not use.
